Our Team

Mark Gaskin joined Manitou in 2009 and serves as President and Chairman, in addition to supporting the firm’s research and portfolio management activities.

Mark co-founded Cranston, Gaskin, O’Reilly & Vernon Investment Counsel in 1995 and retired in July 2008. Prior to working at CGOV, Mark spent approximately five years as a partner and Vice-President of Beutel, Goodman & Company.

Mark is a graduate of the University of Toronto where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree and holds the Chartered Investment Management (CIM) designation. He has been a board member and trustee of several charitable organizations and private companies including Branksome Hall, The Appleby College Foundation, Appleby College (Governor Emeritus), the Canadian Diabetes Association, Consolidated Energy Solutions and Canadian General Tower Limited.

Alanna Marshall joined Manitou in 2016 as Director of Investment Management and Research and currently serves as Manitou’s Chief Investment Officer. Alanna’s primary responsibilities are leading Manitou’s Research and Portfolio Management Activities, and serving as a member of Manitou’s Executive Team.

Prior to joining Manitou, Alanna spent 20 years at Sprucegrove Investment Management serving in a variety of roles of increasing responsibility; most recently as Director of Research and Portfolio Manager.

Alanna graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Arts, followed by an MBA (Finance) from Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona. Alanna is a CFA charterholder.

James Meadows joined Manitou in 2015 and is Manitou’s Chief Operations Officer overseeing all facets of operations including client administration, trading, fund accounting and systems management. James is also a member of Manitou’s Executive Team.

He began his career at Ernst & Young LLP in 1996 and qualified as a Chartered Professional Accountant, CA in 1999. He spent 8 years at Burgundy Asset Management Ltd. where he focused on operations, compliance and fund accounting including serving as Vice President, responsible for the Canadian operations.

James spent 4 years at AGF Investment Inc. as Vice President of Investment Administration conducting investment management analytics, quality assurance and best practices. James received his Honours Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario.

Dale O’Connor joined Manitou in 2022 and serves as Controller and Chief Compliance Officer.

Prior to joining Manitou, Dale spent over 14 years working for several investment management firms in a similar capacity. Before entering the investment management industry, Dale spent almost ten years working in the audit and corporate finance groups for several international accounting firms.

Dale earned a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University, an MBA from Wilfred Laurier University and is a CPA, CA and a CFA charterholder.

Deborah O’Reilly is Manitou’s Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Secretary, member of the firm’s Executive Team and Board. Deborah is also an Associate Investment Counsellor working with clients to customize portfolios that reflect both their return objectives and risk tolerance levels.

Before joining Manitou in 2001, Deborah served as Chief Financial Officer of Financial Concepts Group and Chief Operating Officer of 20/20 Funds. Deborah is a CPA, CA and a graduate of the University of Toronto.
